Welcome to the very first Flux Strike patch notes!

As invites start rolling out, we’re getting ready to welcome the first batch of players to the closed alpha. Keep reading to learn about everything you’ll find in the build, from new features to known issues.

Join the Discord and leave us any feedback, bug reports, or general comments as you play. This goes straight to the team and helps directly improve the future of Flux Strike.

Build Overview

New Story

Experience the first three chapters of a new story with expansive lore that will continue to unfold after the full Flux Strike launch. Flux is the energy cultural artifacts generate when people care, consume, and experience them. Eight megacorporations have found ways to monetize it, collecting artifacts and converting them into corporate branding. Join The Museum, recruit operatives across the eras, and fight to take it back.

Updated Art & Aesthetic

Every operative, environment, and interface element has been created to fit the new corporate-dominated, retro future world of Flux Strike. Each corporation has its own distinct branding, boss mechanics, and fighting styles. And every character feels grounded in their lore and abilities.

Portrait Gameplay

Flux Strike is a vertical game. Everything from the drag-to-attack combat to the menu flows are designed to be played on-the-go with one hand.

Combat

Drag-to-attack Combat

Target selection is now a drag gesture. Swipe from your operative’s ability to the enemy you want to hit and release. It's faster than tapping through menus and it keeps your thumb where the fight is.

Damage Matrix

To maximize character customization and nimble playstyles, we’ve expanded the standard “holy trinity” of combat effectiveness into a dynamic matrix. Every ability now has a type (Chemical, Physical, or Energy) and every character wears a class of armor (Light, Mechanical, or Heavy). This way, your characters aren’t locked to a class identifier and you get to play the game your way.

Combat Log

Every turn is recorded and readable mid-fight. Keep it open during battle to see the exact breakdown of damage output, healing amounts, status effects, F.U.E.L. generation, and even dialogue.

Era Variants

Same hero, eight lifetimes. Each operative has a variant with a completely different look, corporate allegiance, and set of skills. Collect your favorite character’s variants to mix and match their skills and skins into a single, supercharged build.

Squads and Progression

Saved Unit & Team Loadouts

Test different gear sets’ effectiveness on the same operative with a saved loadout. Want to build Mark-IV as a poison, DoT-machine? Easy, just build a new loadout with his Industrial Era abilities and some Apex Ordnance gear. Swap his loadouts between stages to match the enemy at hand.

Team compositions work the same way. Three loadout slots allow you to make three distinct squads. This way, you’re not rebuilding a squad from scratch every time you jump into battle.

Operative Progression

Rank and level characters with Endorsements and Corporate Training Manuals. With each new rank, operative’s skill caps increase, allowing you to build skill trees to fit your play style. The more variants you unlock, the more skills become available.

Gear Upgrades

Equipment sets come from the corporations. Equip two or more, and you’ll get a set bonus. These build in tiers of two. You can max out a corporate bonus with a fully branded kit, or mix your corps to get a wider variety of smaller bonuses.

Idle Time Loops

Send your squad on Time Loops to replay stages you’ve already conquered, earning experience and more loot even when the app is closed. Get on with your day and collect the run whenever you come back.

T.U.B.E. Network Gacha Mechanic

The T.U.B.E. Network is live. Recruitment runs through the Temporal Unified Bureau of Employment, and it's how you pull new operatives and era variants into your roster. Rates and the available pool will shift over the course of the alpha as we tune them.

Known Issues

Here are some features and game elements that aren’t quite ready for primetime. The team is still hard at work, so you may see some of these get updated in future builds over the course of the closed alpha.

Animation

The following operatives are shipping without animation in this build. They function in combat, they just won't look like it yet.

  • Bastet — Industrial, Atomic
  • Gwendolyn — Mythic, Atomic
  • Arkein Weaver — Gothic, Atomic
  • Felix Aldridge — Mythic
  • Ilio Falco — Analog, Atomic
  • Roxie Price — Gothic, Atomic
  • Umbranu Montague — Mythic
  • Zyrus Kade — Industrial, Atomic
  • Ulysses Cole — Analog, Atomic
  • Duren Volk — Atomic, Post-Atomic

Sound Design

Many of the abilities and battle effects have placeholder sound effects in this build. The mix is not final.

Visual Effects

Ability effects are in varying states of works-in-progress.

Economy and Balance

Currency rates, drop rates, and combat balance are all subject to change and will be updated during the closed alpha. Nothing here is final.

What's Next

We'll keep updating the game throughout the closed alpha. Expect changes, balance tweaks, and animation updates over the coming weeks. Your progress will also be wiped after (and potentially during) the closed alpha as we make tweaks and test new updates.

Get into the Discord. Talk to other players, tell us what you think, and join the dev Q&As we have planned.

We have our roadmap we’re building towards, but you, the players, help us make sure we’re on the right track. Invites are still rolling out across this week, so if yours hasn't arrived, sit tight.

Stay tuned.
